Background

In keeping with the Government’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability, the Small Business Bureau continues to advance its support for green entrepreneurship through the Green Technology Fund.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bureau made significant strides in supporting small businesses with innovative, environmentally sustainable ideas. Building on that foundation, the initiative has continued to expand its impact.

Since 2020, a total of 53 entrepreneurs have benefited from the Green Technology Fund, with over GYD $54 million invested in supporting innovative green business solutions. This reflects a sustained and renewed commitment to promoting innovation, environmental responsibility, and sustainable economic development.

Objectives of the Green Technology Fund

At its core, the Green Technology Fund is designed to support ideas and enterprises that contribute to a more sustainable future. Its key objectives include:

Promoting Innovation
To empower individuals and businesses to develop and implement forward-thinking solutions that advance green technology and improve efficiency.

Fostering Sustainability
To support projects that prioritize environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices, thereby encouraging long-term ecological and economic resilience within communities.

Awards for the Green Business Technology Fund are assessed and graded based on the following areas:

Support offered by SBB will include mentoring/coaching, business training, and network connections to allow Green Business Technology Fund awardees to connect with other businesses for technical support, such as access to markets.
