McKenzie High School (Region No. 10)

Rena's Exotic Milkshakes

On October 22, 2024, the Small Business Bureau proudly issued six monetary awards to deserving students from McKenzie High School. Among these ambitious young entrepreneurs was Serena Ramanan, a bright and determined student who used her award to transform her dream into reality by launching Rena’s Exotic Milkshake Business.

Located in the heart of Watooka, Linden, Serena’s business has quickly become a local favorite. Balancing her academic responsibilities with her entrepreneurial journey, Serena creates and sells a delightful array of milkshakes and smoothies after school. Her menu, inspired by fresh local ingredients and her creative flair, features unique flavors such as “Cookies & Cream” and “Vanilla,” making her stand out in the community.

From Idea to Success

Serena’s inspiration for her business stemmed from her love for culinary arts and a desire to bring a unique treat to her neighborhood. Using her award as seed capital, she invested in the necessities to start the business like a small blender, small inventory of fruits, syrups, and toppings. With guidance from her teachers and support from her family, she officially opened Rena’s Exotic Milkshake Business just two weeks after receiving her monetary award.

Through her business, Serena is learning invaluable life skills, including financial management, marketing, and time management. Serena’s mother reached out to the Bureau to offer sincere gratitude for giving her daughter the exposure and push she needed to venture off into her business.
